| Since I received my driving license I've been looking around for a possible first car. Since we're moving houses this year, I will receive a sweet bonus for a first car (my brother got one and she's really into that we both should get the same chances). Now I'm having trouble with finding a car that I really like and is still affordable. Remember that I'll have to pay the gas, taxes and insurance myself. So it's got to fit a curtain picture: - low monthly costs - price: 2.000 - 4.000 euros (absolute max) - Steering wheel on the left - manual transmission - good looking (duh) I like oldtimers, as in <1985. Just because they are tax-free in the netherlands. But I don't have good knowledge of cars and I don't want to spend every damn weekend trying to fix this and that. Or that it'll spend more time in the garage for repairs then on the road. Models that I really like are (yes they are completely different) - Ford Mustang - Land Rover Defender Are there cars that are like those but still affordable? * This topic is serious and I would appreciate if people will help me come up with idea's, and not spam pictures of your fav. car | |

| lol if you want low monthly costs, you'd better not go for a land rover or a jeep or whatever. that will cost you around 1500 euro's a year, if not more - apart from garage costs. and i thought you weren't going for a car yet - did i warm you up? | |

| for a 4x4 it looks rather small, if that's what you're asking, but we just don't have a lot of people in 4x4's | |

| a 4x4 is not really the average car here - we don't really need it. The Kia Sportage is rather big yes, if looking in "bigness" it's about the size of an SUV - maybe a bit smaller. an SUV is considered big here. I think most americans would see this as a small car - for you only a 600HP truck is big. | |

| Haha lol Uti, there are some nice cars there
My favourites would be the Rover 200 and the Audi A3 (just by the looks and size).
By the way - I thought the Land Rovers I posted (from 1982 or earlier) are tax-free? So that wouldn't come down to 1.500 euros each year but just the insurance and fuel. | |

| true - forgot about that. But still, it'll be spending more time in a garage then under your ass. Besides that i just don't recommend such a car as your first - they take some skill to drive, especially when they are that old. Oh, and i think you should read this: " De regeling voor de “oldtimers” (25 jaar en ouder) wordt in de toekomst beperkt. Vanaf 1 januari 2010 vallen alleen nog auto’s van voor 1987 onder de “oldtimerregeling”. De leeftijdgrens van 25 jaar wordt dus verlaten en wordt vervangen door auto’s van voor 1987. Er komen dus geen nieuwe oldtimers meer bij." Bron: http://www.autobelastingen.nl/text.php?t_ID=79 | |
